Cash-grant program for families with low incomes experiencing household emergencies. Families can receive assistance once every 3-year period. The assistance received must resolve the crisis. Families must use their own money first. The amount of assistance provided might not cover the entire emergency, but it can help. The one-time grant assistance may help individuals in a financial crisis because of fire, flood, storm, illness, accident, theft, utility shut off (electric, gas, heating fuel, water service payment assistance), eviction, foreclosure, moving expense and/or deposit, necessary home repairs, or need for furniture or appliance replacement or repair. NOTE: Client may also be eligible for Emergency Medical Assistance

Accepts donated items such as bedding/linens, books, movies, music/CDs, clothing, furniture, home decor, household appliances, jewelry, kitchen appliances, seasonal items, sporting goods, toys, and games. Items not accepted are baby furniture, televisions, computers, office printers, large appliances, mattresses, sleeper sofas, textbooks, exercise equipment, and items that are broken or non-working.

The availability of financial assistance/vouchers varies month by month and may be limited to partial payments depending on the amount owed and funds available. Financial emergency assistance may be available once every 12 months and considered on a case-by-case basis for the following. Services include, but are not limited to: - Food vouchers - Furniture vouchers and referrals to Bridging to receive furniture - Gas money vouchers or gift cards are available once every 6 months, depending upon the situation - Heat Share program provides fuel oil, gas, and electric payment assistance to avoid disconnection - Information and referral for eye care and food shelf - Networking support - Other financial assistance for emergencies beyond the individual's control - Pathway of Hope: Mentoring program for families. Winona Volunteer Services offers vouchers and referrals to meet a variety of needs for people who are struggling. Before a voucher is given an in-depth conversation will take place between the individual and staff to determine individual's circumstances. Vouchers may be issued for the items listed below. - Clothing vouchers may be issued for the Winona Volunteer Services Clothes Shop. If specific employment-related clothing is required a voucher may be issued to Rogan's or another local entity. - Diapers voucher may be issued for parents/guardians experiencing unexpected financial difficulty. - Formula vouchers may be issued, but a referral from WIC is required. - Vouchers may be issued for individuals needing cooking supplies. - ID replacement financial assistance may be available for individuals needing ID to gain employment, but a referral from Careerforce Center is required. - Miscellaneous emergency needs financial assistance may be provided when no other assistance is available. - Please note that utility assistance is not available through Winona Volunteer Services and that basic assistance via vouchers is available via Law Enforcement @ 201 W 3rd St at night and on weekends.
