The Mille Lacs Band District Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction. The District Court hears civil matters, criminal prosecutions, and certain administrative appeals.

Provides individualized 24-hour supports and supervision to individuals with mental illness, traumatic brain injury, and chemical dependency.Services include working with individuals with dual diagnosis, and complex behavioral and medical needs.

Provides investigative and intervention services for child abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment. Services include:- Accepts reports of abuse- Assessment of the initial referral- Consultation with individuals who suspect abuse- Consultation with the family to determine the nature of the problem- Dependency investigation- Explanation of reporting statutes and answer questions regarding agency practices- Ongoing support services for children and their families- Temporary placement of children who are removed from the home- Works with the family toward unification or reunification

Provides assistance, investigates, and/or intervenes on behalf of vulnerable adults who are unable to act on their own behalf, manage their own affairs, or who are in immediate danger due to physical or emotional abuse, unsafe or hazardous living conditions, exploitation, neglect, or abandonment.Services may include:- Authorization for medical treatment- Consultation to individuals who suspect abuse?- Removal of the individual to safer surroundings?- Services necessary to remove the conditions which have created a threat to life?NOTE: Complaints, questions, or concerns involving incidents in facilities licensed by the Health Department - such as hospitals, nursing homes, boarding care homes, supervised living facilities, and assisted living and home health agencies - can be referred to the MN Office of Health Facility Complaints at (651)201-4201 or toll-free at (800)369-7994.

Offering dementia and Alzheimer's care; medication management; respite care and hospice services; therapeutic recreation programs; planned social activities; and intergenerational activities.

Services are victim-centered, which means individuals will guide their own process, make their own decisions, and have staff provide information, support, and referrals.Services include:- Advocacy: Assistance in obtaining Emergency Protective Orders, Permanent Restraining Orders, Stalking/Harassment Orders, Temporary Restraining Orders, housing, community services, and medical appointments- Confidentiality- Community education and professional training- Crisis line- Emergency Services: Transportation to medical facilities, law enforcement, safe housing, etc.- Individual and group support- Prevention and/or Rapid Rehousing: Services provided by the Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program - FHPAP- Safety planning

Provides housing assistance to qualified individuals through the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 8 program.

May assist with custody matters, divorce matters, protection orders, and Indian Child Welfare Act cases. Family legal services work on preserving stability for children and protecting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.

Services provided: - Responsible for maintaining approximately 1,800 miles of roadway, including contracted township roads and 140 bridges. - Directly or indirectly involved with the maintenance of roadways under the jurisdiction of 15 cities, 42 organized townships and the 37 unorganized townships in the county. - Responsible for the administration of both the highway maintenance division and the highway construction division. - Responsible for graveling, grading, drainage, signing, snow removal, ice control, equipment repair and minor road improvements. - Responsible for the design and construction administration of all contracted road and bridge improvement projects.

Public library system- Provides the public with general library services without charge to all residents of a given district, community, or region- Includes computer access, Internet, reference assistance, and other informational resources- Story hour for children

Pays for room and board for seniors and adults with disabilities who have low incomes. Aims to reduce and prevent people from living in institutions or becoming homeless.All recipients receive assistance each month to help pay for rent and food. Some recipients also receive Housing Support supplemental funding to provide other services if they don't qualify for home and community-based waiver programs, including but not limited to:- Arranging for medical and social services- Arranging for meetings and appointments- Assistance with transportation- Medication remindersThe individual's housing provider receives payments to pay for rent, utilities, food, household supplies, and other necessities.

Provides emergency food and assists participants with enrolling in and renewing SNAP benefits. Health, beauty, and other household items may be available

Provides comprehensive free tax assistance, from late January to October, to low- and moderate-income Minnesota taxpayers. Provides the following services:- Do It Yourself Prep: Online training is available to help individuals get ready to file their taxes, and a Self-Prep Tax Guide and the software individuals need to file taxes for free is provided. Individuals need to reserve a spot in the webinar. 50 slots are available per webinar and it will be offered once a week starting in February continuing to April 20. Webinar scheduling availability changes from day to day so check the website to see what is available often for an opening.- DIY Tax Prep: This option is available for people with annual incomes under $73,000 who have access to technology. This program will include a link to create a free TaxSlayer account so individuals can prepare and electronically file their federal and state income taxes as well as the Minnesota property tax refund. Includes a Do-it-Yourself Tax Prep Guide, a useful resource to help individuals navigate tax situations and the tax software. They will offer weekly training on navigating TaxSlayer. Additionally, support will be provided via email and phone to get individuals over the finish line and file if they get stuck in their tax returns.- Tax Prep: Appointments are conducted multiple site locations across the Twin Cities. Appointment scheduling begins January 2026 until full. Appointments are only scheduled two weeks out at a time. Services may not be offered for less common tax situations.
