Animal Services - Animal Care and Control Program, City of Minneapolis
Handles all animal complaints by enforcing all animal control ordinances for city of Minneapolis and dispersing wardens on patrol to proper area of activity.
Keeps animals impounded available for five full days to be reclaimed by their owners.
Pick-up services offered for:
- Cats: Only if they are live trapped or otherwise contained
- Wild animals: Only if they are injured/sick
- Dead animal pick up
Additional services:
- Handles routine neglect cases and acts of animal cruelty
- Provides adoption of dogs, cats, and small animals at the shelter
- Investigates dog bites and quarantine services enforced for rabies
- Sells licenses for dogs and cats, dog park permits, and other animal permits
- Approves special permits for events involving hooved animals and animals wild by nature
- Monitors licensed pet shops in Minneapolis
- Investigates crimes against animals
- Volunteer program
- Works closely with health agencies to control zoonotic (disease that can be passed between animals and humans) diseases
