Provides legal representation on denial, reduction, or termination of public benefits such as food support, unemployment, MFIP, healthcare, GA, Child Care Assistance, or SSI

- Emergency Assistance denials

Consumer Services Center - Minnesota Department of Commerce
Assists consumers in resolving problems in the areas of insurance, banking, securities, real estate, collection agencies, payday lending, currency exchanges, and residential mortgage originator (including loan modification). This includes complaints or potential misconduct or fraud.
Assists Minnesotans to reunite with unclaimed property held by the State of Minnesota. The Department of Commerce maintains an online database of unclaimed property in Minnesota. Searching the database is free online at www.missingmoney.com.
Conducts criminal investigations of suspected insurance fraud and related financial crimes. Types of insurance fraud that are investigated include:

- Elder law (health care directives, powers of attorney, estate planning, probate, guardianships, grandchild adoption/guardianship/custody, Indian trust land/accounts)
- Estate planning
- Family law (divorce and custody/visitation)
- Housing
- Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)
- Juvenile delinquency
- Probate
- Public benefits (denial or termination of benefits such as Social Security)
- Truancy cases
Cannot accept cases such as:
- 1st or 2nd degree drug possession
- Bankruptcy
- Commitments
- Criminal or civil cases outside of the service area
- Drug sales
- Employment discrimination
- Federal court cases

- Suing other band members for money damages
- Worker's compensation
- Wrongful termination
