Providing MA to refugeesNOTE: Refugees who are eligible for Medical Assistance are served through that program. Refugees receiving Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) are automatically eligible for RMA if they are not already MA eligible.

Subsidized public housing is available for low-income households. Options include 2, 3, and 4-bedroom units for low-income families, as well as 1-bedroom units for low-income older adults. Section 8 housing is also available.

Community Support Program (CSP) helps people to maintain functioning in their homes or community. Services are provided individually or in groups by one of the following staff: mental health practitioner, mental health worker, or certified peer specialist.Peer mentoring services provides help with problem-solving, goal setting, social skills, and community integration; peer mentors can provide feedback, advocacy, support, and role modeling. Services available 1:1 or in a group setting. Services are provided by a person who has a lived experience with a mental health diagnosis. Peer Mentoring is offered through the CSP in Big Stone, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, and Swift counties.

Provides permanent supportive housing for those experiencing long-term homelessness, living with a mental illness, physical disability, and/or substance use disorder. Supports more than 100 residents in affordable rental housing, on-site and scattered around Hennepin County.

Section 8 Rent Assistance is designed to help low income families meet their monthly housing costs - Program provide benefits each month by paying some of a family's rent directly to the landlord - Tenant pays about 30% of monthly income toward rent & utilities - Benefits can be provided to approximately 128 families a month: Program operates at capacity New applicants generally placed on waiting list Openings occur on a regular basis

County Jail oversees a 197 bed jail in Duluth

Accepts and responds to and/or investigates reports of child abuse, neglect, or abandonment.Services may include:- Accepting reports of abuse- Assessment of the initial referral- Consultation to individuals who suspect abuse- Consultation with the family to determine the nature of the problem- Dependency investigation?- Ongoing support services for children and their families- Temporary placement of children who are removed from the home?- Works with the family toward unification or reunification?NOTE: In addition to taking reports, child protection screeners are available to explain the reporting statutes, answer questions regarding agency practices and discuss other resources and strategies when reports do not meet criteria for assignment for child protection investigation.

The Energy Assistance Program helps pay heat and electricity costs. Payments for energy bills are sent directly to the household's energy company or fuel provider for propane, fuel oil, or wood. Financial assistance varies depending on household income and fuel costs. The Energy Assistance Program provides additional grants for eligible households who need help with: - Getting reconnected to heat and power after disconnections- Paying for emergency fuel deliveries of propane, heating oil, or biofuel- Preventing disconnection- Providing emergency heating system repair or replacement for homeowners- Weatherization services to both homeowners and renters to reduce home energy consumption and costs for eligible households by improving the energy efficiency in homes

Provides help to at-risk families to avoid future incidents of child maltreatment and to enhance child and family well-being, including:- Comprehensive assessments, early intervention, outreach, and supportive and therapeutic services- Connect families with county and community-based services- Limited financial assistance for families to meet basic needs

Thrift store offering new and used clothing and household goods.Village Rewards program whereby shoppers earn points for each dollar spent, for donating, and for special volunteer events. A planned program of care for the treatment of chemical dependency or chemical abuse to minimize or prevent further chemical abuse. Each county and Indian reservation is responsible for: - Assessment and placement of recipients who need chemical dependency treatment services; - Establishing contracts with facilities and programs to provide chemical dependency services; and - Certification of claim forms prior to billing DHS.

Provides a 30 - 45 day, 45 - 60 day, and 60 - 120 day inpatient treatment program for adolescents, including gender specific programming, experiencing problems related to chemical use with programs including:- School component which includes close, periodic, and continuing contact with client's school system on an inpatient and aftercare follow-up basis- Recreational program emphasizing individual and group skills in addition to recreational therapy- Family participation for lectures, groups and family sessions. Family week scheduled during treatment phase. Family involvement encouraged.- Three month aftercare program for graduates of program and their families

Provides substance use prevention services, including:- Drug and Alcohol Education Diversion Program: For youth and young adults in the beginning stages of substance use who have gotten into legal or school trouble due to their substance use. Parents are required to participate for participants under age 18.- Individual and family substance use counseling for adolescents, young adults, and adults- Substance Use Assessments: A licensed alcohol and drug counselor conducts substance use assessments for adolescents and adults

Pays for room and board for seniors and adults with disabilities who have low incomes. Aims to reduce and prevent people from living in institutions or becoming homeless.All recipients receive assistance each month to help pay for rent and food. Some recipients also receive Housing Support supplemental funding to provide other services if they don't qualify for home and community-based waiver programs, including but not limited to:- Arranging for medical and social services- Arranging for meetings and appointments- Assistance with transportation- Medication remindersThe individual's housing provider receives payments to pay for rent, utilities, food, household supplies, and other necessities.

Offers dial-a-ride public transportation services. Transportation services are wheelchair accessible.
