An urgent need for insulin means that individuals have less than a 7-day supply of insulin and will likely have significant health consequences if individuals run out of insulin.Requires insulin manufacturers to provide insulin to eligible individuals for up to one year, with the option to renew annually. Throughout the year individuals are determined eligible, the manufacturers will provide prescribed insulin for a co-pay of no more than $50 for each 90-day supply. Some individuals with insurance may be referred to a manufacturer's co-pay program, which waives all or part of the co-pay that the patient normally has to pay, if the co-pay program provides a better value.

The Red Cross is the mechanism to expedite access to these financial resources.Information and Referral Services- Offers confidential services to all members of the military, veterans, and their families by connecting them with local, state, and national resources through the network of American Red Cross chapters. Local chapters develop and maintain relationships with community partners. Military families rely on the local chapter to help them identify their needs and connect them to the most appropriate chapter and community resources. Home CareSpecialized nursing care is provided by public health nurses in the home to assist with medication management, wound care, dressing changes, post-operative care, and other services ordered by the client's physician. The public health nurse may also assign a licensed practical nurse or home health aide to assist in the care of the client.Home health aides/elder care aides provide personal care (hair washing, showers, nail care, etc.), visiting, light housekeeping, and other services for clients with medical or health problems. Aides may also monitor vital signs and provide basic health services. The public health staff is available to perform home safety checks for families with children or for elders. A limited number of safety items may be available following the home safety check. Instruction on how to use this equipment will be provided, although the nursing staff cannot install the equipment for families.Community Health Representatives (CHR) TransportationProvides transportation for individuals to medical, dental, and optical appointments only after all other resources are exhausted. Appointments should be confirmed with the CHR's schedule to assure that clients arrive on time to their appointments. No one under the age of 18 will be transported without a parent. All persons being transported are required to wear a seat belt at all times. Delivers medical prescriptions to homebound elders who have no other means of obtaining their medication.
