Description

The Sheriff provides law enforcement and community services including: - Administration of programs aimed at the protection of life and property - Assigning deputies tasks, reviewing performance, and promotions - Civil and criminal process service (warrants, writs, precepts, and orders) - Contracted police protection with six towns in Wilkin County - Court security and serving as Court Bailiff - Death investigations and acting as the coroner for the county - Development and implementation of Department Policy and Procedure - Emergency response and Search and Rescue operations - Investigating complaints of criminal activity and traffic accidents - Investigating all deaths occurring in the county - Interviews and selection of new employees - Maintenance of a 21-bed jail for Wilkin County - Maintenance of confidential records when appropriate - Mental health and inebriation transport to appropriate facilities - Offender transportation and coordination with other law enforcement agencies - Preparation, recommendation, and monitoring of Sheriff's Department budget - Scheduling and oversight of departmental training - Testifying in court and coordinating with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, probation and parole officers, social services, and the medical examiner's office - Works closely with other law enforcement agencies, probation and parole, prosecutors, social services agencies, and the medical examiner's office
