Emergency Rental Assistance and Eviction Prevention Program - Saint Paul City Offices

Eligibility

Residents of Saint Paul who meet the following guidelines:- 30-day notice of intent to evict (Notice to Quit), or Housing Court Summons- Address meets the city limits on the Saint Paul Property guidelines: https://stpaul.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/lookup/index.html?appid=877887df70bb4acaba5bc79b866c1685- Leased residence is within Saint Paul city limits and has an active lease- Meet an income restriction of 80% Area Median Income (AMI) or less (visit website for details)- No member of the household has received funding from this program in the last 12 months. Upon approval, tenants will receive a letter of guarantee that they will not be evicted from their unit by their landlord for missed rent that ERA funds will cover.- Recently experienced an unforeseen event resulting in an eviction notice

Required documents

Must provide the following documents:- 30-day notice of intent to evict (Notice to Quit), or Housing Court Summons- Evidence of a pending eviction- Income verificationNOTE: Applicants are required to submit one type of income verification from one of the following categories and the same category must be used for all income-earners in the household. Categories include: - Category 1: Proof you are currently enrolled in one of the following qualifying programs: Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) Emergency Assistance (EA) /Family Homeless Prevention and Assistance Program (FHPAP) within the last 90 days Energy Assistance Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota (FAIM) General Assistance (GA) Headstart Medical Assistance for single adults over 18 Minnesota Care Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Women, Infants, Children (WIC)- Category 2: Tax return for the most recent year: Full Form 1040, filled and signed for all non-dependents above the age of 18 NOTE: If the head of household is a dependent on another tax return, use category 3 or 4- Category 3: Proof of income (provide multiple documents listed here if applicable to your household): Certification of zero income (see document on ERA website) documentation of child support, alimony, or foster care payments paystubs showing 30 days of earnings Social Security award letter- Category 4: Self-employment, must provide all of the following documents: 1040 Return for business included Schedule C documentation of gross receipts and/or Profit and Loss Statement

Provides assistance to renter households in Saint Paul that face a pending eviction due to unforeseen circumstances when other services or funds are unavailable. Funding for eligible households is limited to a one-time payment of up to $3,500 for late rent and associated fees paid directly to landlords. Residents are eligible for funding once a year.NOTE: Applications will be open the first two days of each month, on the 1st and 2nd days. Due to high demand, applicants will be entered into a lottery. All applicants will be notified of their application status on the 3rd day of the month. Being selected in the lottery is not a guarantee of funding.
