Eligibility

Pregnant, breast feeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to the age of 5 with an income level less than or equal to 185% of the poverty level or eligible for Medical Assistance, SNAP or MFIP, and a documented nutritional risk. Serves Rice County.

Application process

Call for appointment WIC is not an entitlement program and therefore applicants participate in a screening and assessment process to determine eligibility This process is called certification and the certification period is for a specified amount of time (i.e. until the end of the pregnancy, the first birthday, and six month increments for children).

Description

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that assists pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children to eat well, learn about nutrition, and stay healthy. Many working and low-income families are eligible for WIC's benefits. The WIC Program provides: - Breastfeeding advice and support - Nutrition assessment and feeding tips - Referrals to health and social services - Vouchers for healthy foods (for example, milk, fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs)
